I like Polish cuisine. I really like soups and I also like main courses. I think there's something for everyone. We have a lot of meat dishes (including game) and vegetarian dishes, which I especially love (although I am not a vegetarian). Among the traditional meat dishes, the following dominate: pork knuckle in beer, pork chop, minced meat with cucumber salad, various types of goulash, cabbage rolls, roast chicken, duck, goose and turkey, bigos on ribs and many others. Vegetarian dishes are primarily pierogi, pancakes, Silesian dumplings, potato pancakes, gray dumplings, potato kiszka, potato babka or kartacze (although they have meat filling).
1. Roasted pork knuckle with bone (pieczona golonka z kością)
Roasted pork knuckle with bone (pieczona golonka z kością) served with baked potatoes or homemade bread. Often also served with fried cabbage, mustard and horseradish.
2. Silesian dumplings and minced chops (kotlety mielone z kluskami śląskimi)
Silesian dumplings and minced chops (kotlety mielone z kluskami śląskimi) served with lettuce in sour cream. Silesian dumplings are delicious, I could eat them every day. The small hole that is visible at the top is intentional - that's where the sauce from the dish stops. Minced chops are usually made of pork, but for me they are an addition to the dumplings, not the other way around :)
Kartacze also known as cepelins. Unique, large, made mostly of grated, raw potatoes. They have an amazing taste, filled with meat filling. Garnished with onion and bacon, served with white and red cabbage or sour cream. A fantastic dish that dominates in eastern Poland.
4. Traditional dumplings (pierogi)
Traditional dumplings (pierogi) with cottage cheese and potato filling are my children's favourite dish. Pierogi can also be with meat, spinach, sauerkraut, or even cottage cheese and buckwheat. Most often served with fried onion and sour cream.
5. Roasted piece of pork meat (pieczeń wieprzowa)
Roasted piece of pork meat (pieczeń wieprzowa) with marinated beetroot and baked sweet potatoes, served with celery root sauce and parsley. In Polish cuisine, we often use pork. We can diversify the dish by adding various additions such as vegetables, sauces, herbs.
6. Beef and pork cutlets (kotlety wołowo-wieprzowe)
Beef and pork cutlets (kotlety wołowo-wieprzowe) stewed in onion served with mashed potatoes and beetroots. Honestly, beetroot salad is my favorite. If I go to a restaurant, and if I can, I always choose this salad.
7. Pork chop (kotlet schabowy)
Pork chop (kotlet schabowy) A classic of traditional Polish cuisine. The dish is often served on Polish tables on Sundays. A must-have dish at weddings, birthdays, and funerals. Fried in lard, with a side of white cabbage and mashed potatoe.
