Desserts in Poland

I try not to eat too many sweets, but of course it's impossible :) We have delicious cakes and desserts in Poland.

  1. Cheesecake (sernik)
  2. Poppy seed cake (makowiec)
  3. Kuch mazurski
  4. Whipped cream tubes (rurki z bitą śmietaną)
  5. Traditional gingerbread cookies (pierniczki)

1. Cheesecake (sernik)

The leader among cakes is cheesecake (sernik) In Poland, we have different types of cheesecake: Viennese cheesecake, cheesecake with dew, cold cheesecake or royal cheesecake. Honestly, I always choose this cake in cafes. I am loyal to cheesecake :))

2. Poppy seed cake (makowiec)

Poppy seed cake (makowiec) is my dad's favorite cake. Delicious yeast cake layered with poppy seed filling full of raisins, almonds and candied orange peel, covered with icing, melts in your mouth.

3. Kuch mazurski

A cake that seduced me with its taste. It looks very ordinary, but tastes out of this world. It is a traditional "Kuch mazurski", which in the past centuries was served only on Sundays (ingredients, especially butter and eggs were very expensive).

4. Whipped cream tubes (rurki z bitą śmietaną)

Whipped cream tubes (rurki z bitą śmietaną) wrapped in an incredibly shortcrust pastry baked in one of the top Polish confectioneries. I have a huge weakness for them and whenever I can I buy them and enjoy the wonderful taste and texture.

5. Traditional gingerbread cookies (pierniczki)

My list could not be complete without traditional gingerbread cookies (pierniczki) It is known that the gingerbread tradition is long and in Poland it's particularly connected with Toruń (there is also a Living Museum of Gingerbreads). Every year I bake traditional gingerbread cookies with my children for Christmas. It is great fun combined with a wonderful taste. The main ingredients are dominated by honey and spices such as: cloves, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, nutmeg, cardamom. An explosive but wonderful mix.
